Balasaheb Desai College Patan established in June 1969 with mission to impart higher education to youth residing in Patan Tehsil. The college is catering to the educational needs of this backward rural, earthquake prone, hilly area of Maharashtra. The college offers undergraduate courses in Arts, Commerce and Science disciplines, BCA and M. A. (Marathi), M Com and M. Sc. (Analytical Chemistry). Total numbers of Departments in college are sixteen.
College has been reaccredited by NAAC Bangalore in March 2012 with B+ grade with CGPA 2.68. The college is covered under 2f and 12B status of University Grants Commission New Delhi. Shivaji University Kolhapur has granted permanent affiliation to college. Being a unique college in Tehsil imparting education in all three basic streams, we offer admission to all students seeking admission in college. Most of the students admitted in the college are from economically deprived families. The college has sufficient infrastructure, well furnished classrooms and laboratories to perform effective teaching and learning. The library is enriched with Twenty Eight thousand books, journals and it is fully computerized. Some students are recipient of University merit scholarships and have notable performance in sport events.
The quality teachers, is the strength of the college. Thirty two regular teachers out of which nineteen teachers have acquired Ph.D. and four teachers have acquired M. Phil. Teachers are keenly engaged in research activities by under taking major and minor research projects. Two major and eighteen minor research projects funded by UGC and DST are undertaken by faculty members. Publications by faculty members and papers presentation in academic conferences are remarkable. DST New Delhi has sanctioned Rs Forty Lakhs under DST-FIST program.
