History of the Department:
In the June 1969 College was established in remote area situated in Sahyadri valley at Patan. In 1969-70 Arts was started. In 1970-71 B.A. Part I started and B.A.II class was started in the year 1971-72. As a full pledge department, it comes into existence in June 1972.

Head, Department of History
The Department of History is one of the oldest departments of Balasaheb Desai College, Patan . History is the subject which help all of us understand our society and the changes therein. Studying History enables us to build knowledge and understanding of historical events and trends which enables us to develop a much greater appreciation for current events today. The syllabus offered is the one designed and approved by the Shivaji University, Kolhapur. It has a wide range of courses to equip the students with the required skill and knowledge. The Department is offering the BA under the ‘Choice Based credit System’ (CBCS).
Department also provides opportunities to its student to learn practically by organizing Historical tours and visits. It also organizes Seminars, Workshops and Conferences which enables students to apply their theoretical knowledge to contemporary world.
